I am going to be buildig a house and am debating between Vinyl & Fiber Cement siding. Vinyl wouldn't be a problem with me except I can not find one that actually looks like wood (which is an appearance that can be obtained with fiber cement).

I guess my question is:

1) Are there any good vinyl sidings out there that look like wood?

2) Does anyone know of an independant site that compares the pros & cons of each? (I can only find comparisons done by manufacturers of each, witrh obvious results leaning toward the manuafacturers product.)

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Take a look @ www.prodigysiding.com. It is a new vinyl product made by Alside. It is awesome! It looks just like cedar, has an R5 insullation value, and comes in a 6" exposure. And, as opposed to fiber cement products, you wont have to worry about the weight, moisture, bad seams, or painting. It is takeing a big chunk of the fiber cement market here in Chicago.

The only downside is it is not available in all parts of the country yet.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply. I ordered a catalog.

If anyone else has ideas, I welcome them.
