Our house is approximately 8 years old. Each winter we have heard loud noises during the nigth only later to discover that the mortar/grout were breaking around & under our tile floors. Some had advised that perhaps the mortar was not mixed properly & it was breaking with the expansion/contraction during temperature changes. Today, after hearing "gunshoot" like sounds, we woke to finding 2 rows of tiles buckled in the center of the room. I read an earlier blog from 2007 on this site. It advised the home owner that the could be that the tile &/or grout were butted too tightly against the wood framing and that the tile was being pushed inward as the wood framing expanded. I was wondering what other causes could be and how would I investigate to find my cause and subsiquent solution.
