Ditching carpet for hard floors is a smart move to reduce allergies and simplify floor cleaning. But that makes picking the best mop system all the more important, since it’s your main defense against dirty floors. While moving from carpet to all hard floors myself, I chose to buy the O-Cedar H2prO Flat Mop System for my new home, hoping it lives up to the hype.

Assembly was simple. Connect the sections of the mop handle, attach the mophead, add the mop pad (which attaches like Velcro), and add the foot holder to the bottom of the bucket. One of the most attractive features of this system is how the bucket keeps clean water separate from dirty water. To get started, you remove the small tank from the front and fill it with water (additional cleaning solution is optional). Simply pop it back into place on the bucket, and you are ready to mop.

There’s a minimal learning curve to getting started with the O-Cedar H2prO Flat Mop System. I watched the video on the product listing a few times, and that’s all it took. I put my foot on the foot holder of the bucket system to hold it in place and fed the mop head into the slot next to the clean water tank. The water jets work by physical force (no batteries), so the pressure of pushing the mop down triggered the clean water to spray onto the mop pad. To reduce the amount of water on the mop, simply push it through the back section and wring it out. The excess water collects in the bottom of the bucket, completely separate from the clean water.

While mopping, you’ll want to add more water to the mop along the way. The O-Cedar H2prO Flat Mop System bucket makes this process the easiest I’ve ever experienced. Simply push the mophead into the first slot by the clean water tank, and the water jets wet the mop pad. You can also use the bucket to rinse out the dirty mop pad by putting the mophead in the first slot with the clean water jets, then wringing it in the second slot where the dirty water will collect in the bottom chamber, and repeat until satisfied. The mop pad won’t be white again until washing it in a washing machine, but it’s nice to be able to reduce the dirt on the mop pad while in action, knowing you’re adding only clean water every time.

The mop glided smoothly over my textured laminate flooring, yet the mop pad was fuzzy enough to get into the faux wood grooves, providing a thorough clean. It does well on baseboards with the swivel of the mophead being a nice balance between firm and flexible. The size of the mophead is thin enough to fit behind a toilet, but long enough that mopping open flooring is completed quickly.

Having just purchased a house, I had a unique challenge in that the well water was not ready to use yet. But I needed my floors clean before moving in any boxes or furniture. The bucket that comes in the O-Cedar H2prO Flat Mop System stood out to me in particular because I could fill it from a different water source and transport it to my house. The only drawback I found with this mop system was that the water in the clean water tank can spill easily during transport, so I had to carefully secure the bucket in my car. It’s better to fill a water bottle instead and add water upon arrival. But this shouldn’t be a problem for the typical user, and is no longer a problem for me now that my water is fixed.

The bucket system has never toppled over when in use, thanks to the clever foot holder. But be aware when carrying the bucket that there is a tiny chance of spilling water, especially if the dirty water section is full. The clean water tank holds enough to mop up to 650 square feet, so I had to refill the tank more than once. However, I prefer it this way because the bucket is compact, making it easy to maneuver and store away. I am so pleased with this mop and bucket that the O-Cedar H2prO Flat Mop System is now my primary floor cleaning tool.
