We're from Montana...purchased a Ready-To-Move home from Canada. Great Idea. Bad company. The contractor went bankrupt and we forced delivery of what was completed to date. Mainly a finished home, but with only a scratch coat (for stucco) as siding. Having paid for the stucco once already and faced with doing so again, we got a bid from an American mason and were floored at the cost. Now we're concidering covering the whole thing plus site-built attached garage with fiber cement. Question is...can it be installed over the scratch coat on the house? We're at witts (and pocket book's) end...and need help.

The pros who did my Hardie put Tyvek down, and I understand this is recommended. I'm not sure if the removed to old "blue board" or not.

I've heard of people just nailing it to the studs with the "blue board" in place, or on my neighbor's detached garage it was done over tar paper. I don't think this is recommended. I think you need a good moisture barrier.
