I am about to stud my basement, and have a question about vapor barriers. My basement is dry, and I even did the old "tape plastic to the wall" test. No signs of moisture through the wall or from condensation from within the room. My question is this: Do I need to treat the walls with any dry-lock type of sealer? Should I space the stud walls an inch away from the concrete wall? And lastly- After insulating my studded walls should I put up a plastic vapor barrier on the inside of the walls(the interior room side)?

Hi lilly, here is what I did as i too am in the process of finishing my basement.You will undoubtedly here suggestions to the contrary but I can only tell you that I am secure in how I did it.
No, you do noot need to seal or add any type of "dry-loc".
Yes, you should leave about an inch of space between the concrete and the studs.
You can use insulation that has a vapor barrier on it or the type that doesn't.If you do then you will need to use a 6mil. plastic and attach to the studs FACING the room.
