When building an addition (in this case it is a garage)that eliminates attic eave venting on one side of a roof, what is the normal remedy for keeping the required area of venting for the existing attic? The roof of the garage addition overframes the current roof, and with garage fire separation requirements I can't allow ventilation in from the garage. Do I cut a large hole in the sheathing of the existing roof within the confines of the overframing and provide roof vents in the new overframing? Is cutting in a new or larger gable vent in the existing wall the answer (there is not one there now).
Any help appreciated.
