I have ice build-up on my eaves.Last year I went up to the attic and removed any insulation that was blocking the soffit. I also installed baffels between the rafters to create a channel between the insulation and underneath the roof sheathing. This did not fix the problem,so I am thinking of adding another layer of insulation that would fill the top of the rafters to the underside of the roof sheathing about 2 feet from the soffit, cold air would enter through the area created by the baffles. I also had the roof reshingled last year and put on a ridge vent.Will I do more good than harm?

Your problem is ice damming which is caused in part by too little ventilation, too little insulation, and too much heat escaping into the attic via attic doors, pipes, ducts, chimneys, or wires.
