Hi everyone,
I have a GE dishwasher, 5 years old which works but water leaks from it into the basement ceiling ( not onto kitchen floor). So I have stopped using it. Could anyone tell me if its repairable or I need a new one. How much would the cost be for repair...Thanks

It is kind of difficult the way gravity works for a dishwasher to leak and water not get onto the floor but for it to affect areas below the floor. Either the water has to be passing through the floor from above (where the dishwasher is) or is not coming from the dishwasher itself at all.

It probably is but someone is going to have to actually look at it to first determine *exactly* where the leak is originating to see if and how the cause can be repaired.
You can read about replacing a dishwasher at the following like which should illustrate some of the plumbing connections *to the dishwasher* which might also be responsible for leaks besides ones from the dishwasher itself. Those would have to be inspected too.

You can see a tray that can be used under a dishwasher so any leaks will be funneled in front of the dishwasher where they'll be noticed more readily (hopefully before it causes flooring damage). *Once any leak is corrected* in your current installation, installing such a pan might be an good idea for future problems?

It is not a solution to a leak, just for prevention of flooring damage.
