Hi All,

I'm stumped. I want to hang crowm moldings and replace base moldings in my brick house but the problem is some of the walls seem to have been smeared with cement and then hand plastered. My house is about 60 years old and is a row house with party walls on both sides. I dont understand how I would nail into this and have the moulding stay. I found some crown molding in my house that were put up with what looks like spikes not nails. How could I do this? I've heard of glueing up moldings, is that something to think about? Would a nailer (battery or air) be of use? Please help I'm fustrated.

Thanks,
Joe

A crown molding has a triangular void behind it. Rip scrap lumber the size and shape of that void. Then use liquid nails or PL Premium construction adhesive to fasten it in place to be used as a nailer. If you can't hold it in place while the glue sets with sticks or tape or hot glue, you'll need to use Tapcon screws.

Then just nail the crown to this nailer after the glue sets overnight..

WOW.... I never though of such a thing to do. Sounds great!! Should I do anything special to the wall to make sure that glue sticks to the wall and holds that piece of wood up?

Thanks Again,
Joe

PS - Glad I found this site !!!!!

As long as the wall is not scaling, crumbling, growing mold or otherwise falling apart, the PL will stick almost anything forever.
