Hello All,

We bought a newly built house about 2.5 years back, with a new 50-gal gas water heater. Of-late, I have noticed that the water does not get hot at all in the mornings, esp. if we have not used any hot water the previous evening/night (laundry, dishes etc). The water is cold even though I am first in the shower. But the water gets very hot about a half-hour after the first use of hot water in the morning.

I think I have not seen this problem when we have used enough hot water the previous evening/night. Not sure of the pattern of occurrence yet, still trying to monitor it.

Just wondering whats going on with my heater. Is it a thermostat problem?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Sylvan

Sometimes installers forget heat goes to cold and do not install a heat sink and thus the hot mixes with the incoming cold OR someone may have connected a hot water line to a return circulation line and this to would account for the problem.

I would suggest prior to taking your morning shower or before anyone uses the H/W feel the cold water line (supply) to the heater and see if it is warm or hot to the touch

Also when was the last time someone read the direction about flushing out the sediment as per directions furnished with the heater
