I have just purchased a home in San Antonio, Texas with a very large front yard. I would like to plant several shade trees but am unsure which tree would be best for the rocky-type soil we have here. If anyone has any suggestions, please share.
Thanks,

Hi Chris,

This may sound obvious but I suggest you talk to a local Nursery for suggestions. There are books in the library about trees/vegetation that's indigenous to the area. I suggest you do your best to stay that way because the tree may not survive. Texas has extremes when it comes to weather. Certainly, you'd want hardy vegetation with low maintenance.

When you plant, plant your 'babies' with a FULL-GROWN mentality. Pretend the tree is full-grown and picture in your head where it's 'base' and canopy are going to be. If you pick the right spot, then, when it's full-grown, it will 'belong' where it is.

My best to ya and hope this helps.
