This may sound obvious but I suggest you talk to a local Nursery for suggestions. There are books in the library about trees/vegetation that's indigenous to the area. I suggest you do your best to stay that way because the tree may not survive. Texas has extremes when it comes to weather. Certainly, you'd want hardy vegetation with low maintenance.
When you plant, plant your 'babies' with a FULL-GROWN mentality. Pretend the tree is full-grown and picture in your head where it's 'base' and canopy are going to be. If you pick the right spot, then, when it's full-grown, it will 'belong' where it is.
