I am replacing my existing tile floor in a kitchen with new tiles. The exsiting floor is set atop of a mud bed that is wavy, so I would like to remove it. Additionally, the base cabinets are sitting on top of the exststing tile. Do I need to remove the cabinets and remove the entire floor or is there a way that I can cut the tile and mud bed right up to the base cabinets and then lay cement board and tile?

are you talking about jackhammering the whole floor , thats what a mud job usually requires . if the mud is not under the cabinets you can take it all off . if its under the cabinets cut it away , there are tools that can get close to the cabinet without damaging. roto zip dremel with a masonary cut off wheel , hope this helps...

IF the cabinets are on the existing tile, I would remove the cabinetry. Yeah, you might get by with teh roto-zip, but that will be many cut-off wheels and too many hours down the road to mention.

If you only got to cut through a few tiles (2-4) go ahead and give it a try, but I think you will be disappointed with the end results.

I would remove the cabinets and remove the tile and do the job right. Its really the only way to do a proper job.
