Kenmore series 70 model 23741 (1986) won't drain and won't spin; motor shaft can be seen (and heard and felt) turning, from the back, but belt isn't turning; belt appears to be intact; seems like something should be engaging the belt somewhere (else) and turning it.

Leading up to this, it had filled and washed fine, then out-of-balance buzzer went off (which happens frequently), then buzzer (timer knob) was pushed in (turned off), then clothes were redistributed (as usual), then pulled (timer) knob back out, then the above occured.

Also, how is the belt removed on this particular washer? 110.82374100

There are 4 pulleys (motor, agitator, pump, and 4th one (can't see back in there).

It is not obvious how the belt tension is released and there does not appear to be egress to extract it out (and re-ingress it back).

Do you by chance have access to the procedures for the belt for this washer also?

Hello, checked the water pump - it is not locked up. Pulley turns freely.

How is the belt removed given the egress issues?

For those who may be reading this with similar symptoms, on this particular washer (kenmore series 70, model # above), the issue was the wig-wag. It had just hung up, and needed freeing. The motor, transmision, water pump, 4th pulley, belt, timer, and lid switch all were good. The trick was to reach into the washer and slowly rotate the inner tub by hand clockwise (as facing it) about 1/4 turn, freeing the momentary binding. I suppose bumping the wig-wag directly (with a hammer) also might have freed it. Machine back in full operation. No replacement machine needed and no replacement part(s) needed. Enjoy!
