Spray Foam Inside Roof
I am beyond retirement age and now remodeling to get my wife's "Dream Home". We removed the old roof entirely and put 2x12 trusses on a 12/12 pitch, then new tarpaper and sheathing and asphalt shingles. I wanted spray foam inside the trusses and was told that I did NOT been a ridge vent because the spray foam kept the attic cooler and thus EXTENDED the life of the roof. I just read yesterday on a spray foam web site that foam directly against the sheathing REDUCED the life of the shingles because it trapped heat against them! I have soffit venting but I was going to leave off the baffles between the trusses and spray directly on the back of the sheathing. Do I need to get the roofer back out and install the ridge vent that I had left off and put in the expensive styrofoam baffles to vent the roof before spraying the foam? Also the web site spoke of a Thermal Barrier, none of the spray foam folks have mentioned this either. Is there a place to get straight answers about spray foam that does NOT have a vested interest in selling me their product? I am holding off on insulating becasue I might need to do the roof venting before I spray. The wife is getting tired of conflicting information about spray foam and wants to insulate the house so we can start the sheetrock and move in!
