I have a room in my home that I am in the process of replacing water damaged plaster with drywall. In the corner of the room the chimney comes through and is covered in plaster, but this plaster is water damaged as well, so it has to go. I want to paint the chimney instead of covering it back up, but I’ve been reading about how bad paint is for chimneys. Saying it will hold moisture and cause the mortar and brick to deteriorate. All of the articles I found on painting chimneys talks about exterior chimneys or fireplaces. Should I be worried about the moisture problem or is that more of a concern with the exterior chimney?
