I don’t understand why my neighbor has a 6’ picket fence between the pool deck and my back yard. They may not care about privacy, but I’d rather not see them in their frequent pool parties for extended family, and I’d prefer that their two large noisy dogs couldn’t see me and bark as if I were an intruder in my yard. I want my cats to feel safe when I set up an enclosure behind the house for them accessible by pet door. If I put up solid privacy fence it would render the picket fence irrelevant and impossible to maintain. I like the idea of the privacy screen fabric typically attached over chain link, but without the chain link. Several dealers and buyers of this material have said that it should work, but I haven’t seen any DIY story of such an installation. Fortunately, I’m on the west side and the wind is mostly from the west. If I install inches from the picket fence, the fabric would probably press against the neighbor’s fence, but not billow like the sails on a boat. If the neighbors don’t like it, at least they know that I intend to have privacy there. If they should think that this fabric fence looks cheap and temporary, I could remove it for them to put up privacy fence, where their existing posts give them a head start on the project expense. Is there a better way?
