Sounds like it may have blown its internal fuse but as to why it blew the fuse and how to correct the cause, the microwave would have to be looked into.

so would it be wise to have it looked at and invest in fixing it or should i just buy a new one? do you think it would still be under warranty after two years?

** so would it be wise to have it looked at and invest in fixing it or should i just buy a new one? **

I never advise people to just toss out an appliance before they know for sure how much it is going to cost to repair. That way they can make an informed decision between repair and replacement.

However, if it is just a small, cheap model, just the cost of getting of estimate on repair may be more than the cost of a replacement. Maybe some local repair depots offer free estimates if you take it to them? (don't hold your breath)

If it is a larger unit...

** do you think it would still be under warranty after two years? **

Some models may have up to a two year warranty on parts and/or labour. Check your owner's manual for what warranty is on the model you have.

Same thing happened to my Emerson microwave just after one year. Died completely with no apparent reasons. Any suggestions?

I just had the same thing happen to my 9-year old Whirlpool microwave. It was indeed the fuse, which cost $3 to replace. You cannot do this yourself, because they won't sell you the fuse, but I paid the $30 "bench" fee to have it looked at, so with tax my total repair was about $34. A similar new model would have cost me about $100, so in my opinion the repair was worth it. Hope this helps.

** My brand new Emerson I got for Christmas... **

That would not be "brand new" IMO. It is 6+ months old.

** I don't know what to do about it. **

Take it to a local Emerson authorized service depot for service although they might not be able to provide that service under warranty if you do not have the bill of sale.
