Try the Deck Max Enhanced - I applied this three weeks ago, and the deck looks better than new. Timber Tech will send it to you at no charge. Just make certain that you don't get it on your skin. I got some on my knees, and it literally burned the the skin off both knees. Also, don't apply it when the deck is too hot, that is what causes it to turn black. I am doing my best to stick with the Timber Tech XLM, as it is the only PVC decking that is even close to appearing as real wood.

We may be going into our 3rd replacement of our deck. Mountain Cedar chalked and company replaced it. Now we have Desert Bronze that has scorched even after it was cleaned with Deckmax. Looks awful. They say they'll replace again but we don't know what color/type of floor boards to get this time since so far all the ones we had were bad.

Any suggestions?

Bad news here. I applied the DeckMax in early May and the deck looked great. Just yesterday, June 4, there are areas that are turning black as pictured by others.

Tomorrow I will place a call to Timbertech. The last time I spoke to TT they promised to replace the deck if I am not 100% satisfied, however do I really want to replace it with material that will just go bad again. Additionally, my contractor did such a great job on the first installation, it will be very difficult to duplicate.

I have to correct my post, this will be second replacement not third. ha.ha freudian slip? or looking into the future?

I'm in the same position as you....even though Timbertech said they would replace deck if the Deckmax didn't work, (it did for 5 weeks) , I don't know what to do. Live with the black deck or have it replaced again with all the mess and upset and no guarantee that whatever product they give us won't have problems again.

Would love to hear their answer when you contact them. I haven't yet...have to get rid of my anger first not at them but their product.

Good luck.

Magster -

TT has discontinued the Desert Bronze and now has a new color called Harvest Bronze. The colors are supposed to be almost identical with just a minor difference in grain - I imagine the new name and very slight grain change have been given to differentiate the old defective inventory from the new. TT will be replacing my deck, and I am hopeful that the new material will not have the same issues as the old. They claim the new Harvest Bronze should not present these problems.

Good Luck !

Jmerchant...thanks for the update. I hope you're right on the new product. But that's what they told me with Desert Bronze...that it is a new product with none of the problems of Mountain Cedar...well unfortunately for many of us, they were wrong.

Good luck to you too and we're deciding whether to go ahead with the second replacement...who needs this aggravation on a product that we spent a lot of money on. SO FRUSTRATING!! I'm just so tired of their lies....

OK, is this thread still alive? I have the same white chalking and black spots on my Desert Bronze XLM deck installed a year ago. I just read all 10 pages of this post and it seems the only solutions left are the DeckMax Enhanced stain application or the Harvest Bronze and that the DeckMax Enhanced application is temporary (a few months) at best.

I have spoken to Christy from Timbertech and she said she will send a warranty package out to me and then I read all 10 pages of this blog and called back and got Roslyn from Timbertech customer service. I really pressed Roslyn on some of the issues and she is obviously trained to say these are "isolated incidents." I asked her if she would like me to send he a like to thi Bob Villa blog and she said she had no email. I said this is really important for you to know if you are in customer service so I would be happy to send to your personal email and she said she didn't have one. I mentioined we all know that is not true and she said she would google it and find it. This is a shame. I actually spoke to Christy BEFORE buying the Timbertech Desert Bronze XLM and she told me it fixed all the old problems.

I WILL push a class action lawsuit and get information out to everyone on this list to make it happen if there is not a SOLID RESOLUTION provided to this problem but before I do it has anyone had the Harvest Bronze used as a replacement deck and if so has it worked?

The other question is has the DeckMax Enhanced worked for anyone for at least a year time? It was hard to garner that information from this site because most said it was only temporary.

Let's stand together here! My pics attached.

Add me to the list victims here. Had mountain cedar TT XLM installed back in Sept 2009... only noticed now (i'm not very observant) that three planks are black now.. I think it happened awhile ago, but i thought it was simply dirt that i could easily wash away.

will call TT in the morning.

I think it's about time for a class action suit. And for Timbertech via Roslyn to say she doesn't have e-mail who is she kidding. They all have e-mails and it's the only way I've been in contact with them.

I'm absolutely sure there are more stories like ours out there and people either put up with it or just don't blog about it.

I definitely want to be part of a class action suit as I really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing the deck again with another one of their products that I know will go bad. When are they going to realize that constantly replacing product is eating away at their profits....daaaaa?????? Just make a better product.....and no more empty promises!!

I have no confidence in any of their products and am telling everyone I know never use Timbertech. Product is bad!

I'm having the same problem folks (mine is with the SLM product). Let's all support a class action lawsuit by sending an email to:

timbertech.classaction@yahoo.com

Send your emails with descriptions, issue, etc.
Get reimbursed for the thousands of dollars you would be spending!!

We had our Mountain Cedar XLM deck installed October 2008. I thought the whitening was just minerals in the rain water or something, but after pressure washing and trying to scrub with Simply Green, there is no change. So, I am convinced it is not something on the decking, but rather the planks themselves that are faulty.

My railings look like those shown by another poster (mlm on May 12, 2011) and the deck surface itself is looking like that posted before as well (bethrouns and djphelan on Aug 11, 2009 and August 15, 2009).

After trying to work with our installing company (to no avail) I have begun the warranty process with TT. We got compliments on the deck when it was new...now, not so much.

We had our desert bronze XLM Timbertech deck installed in June 2009 and are also experiencing the fading, and dark streaks. I filed a claim with Timbertech approximately 2-3 weeks ago, and they mentioned they would reimburse for the materials and 1/2 labor. Timbertech indicated they had a bad vendor, but the new XLM that came out since December 2010 has now resolved these issues. Before we begin our negotations for having the deck replaced, we would first like to know that 100% labor will be covered, and we will not experience the same issues again. Can anyone please advise?

Add another unhappy customer. Had my deck installed with Destert Bronze XLM July 2010. Over the past week I've noticed the whitening and several boards are burnt black....HORRIBLE. I spent $18K on this thing and to have it look like hell in a year is not acceptable. I want in on the lawsuit. I just filled out the on line claim form tonight and will begin the calling process tomorrow. Full replacement is my only option, I am not trying Deck Max or any other crap they recommend. If I wanted to stain I'd have stayed with way cheaper cedar!!!! I'm so frustrated.

Latest update is I sent an e-mail to customer service rep at Timbertech that we have been dealing with along with pictures of our deck.

Asked for reimbursement of materials for floor boards Desert Bronze and now railings that have gone white.

Do not want replacement as we don't want more bad product and go through the mess of replacement again and again..which I know will happen....

Deck looks awful. Our house is on corner and everyone can see deck and not good for Timbertech but they continue to sell defective product and come up with excuses why...bad run, wrong cleaner used, etc, etc. blah, blah.

Ball is in their court now...see what happens.
