Recently my water heater began to act up. About two weeks ago the circuit breaker tripped so I went down in my crawl space and check the wires with a multi meter. Everything seemed to working fine. I pushed the reset button and the next morning the reset button popped out again. I replaced both thermostats and all the wires, but I am still losing hot water after two or three uses. I then realized that the water heater was leaking at the connector into the heater. I know it is wet so I propped the heater back so the little bit of water would run off the back and not hit the wires and drigger the reset button. My water heater still shuts off and I have to hit the reset button.

Along with that leak consider replacing the elements. One or both are probably shorted.

So you are saying that the elements are causing the reset button to pop out?
