Hello. I have two problems that might be related.

Suddenly over the last couple of months one of our toilets has started clogging. The plumbers have come in and used a snake etc, to get it going - but then again in a month or so it clogs up.

We have not put anything down the toilet that could cause a clog.

We have also noticed our pipes "whine/moan" like air escaping and wonder if that has anything to do with our problem.

We look forward to your advice.

Check the rooftop termination to make sure the vent is completely clear. Squirells or birds might have decided to make a home out of your house plumbing. Look down with a bright flashlight. It should be clear.

thanks for the suggestion...will check on that after the wind dies down!

BTW - would this "moaning" also force our toilet to back up occasionaly - maybe some kind of reverse pressure effect?

Might be related to high wind conditions. Sometimes your water in the bowl may seem to "swirl" due to alot of air coming down the vent. It's not related at all to reverse pressure. An example of reverse pressure would be siphoning, let's hypothetically say a truck hit a fire hydrant on your main. The water pressure would reduce and possibly cause siphoning. That's where a backflow preventer comes into play. The backflow would activate it's internal check valve and prevent any cross contamination of a potable water supply.
