I am in the process of finishing my basement in my 7 year old house. The basement is appox. 900 square feet and will consist of an office and a larger living room. I have installed a vent-free firebox that will obviously have gas logs in it. There will be 2 or 3 ceiling fans that will help circulate the warm air. I have insulated all of the walls with R-19 and the ceiling with R-30.

Now my concern is that when my family is not down there the logs will not be on and the basemet will be, well, just COLD during the winter. There is no furnace there and no other means of providing heat other than the fireplace. My idea is to install a couple of electric baseboard heating units with a T-stat that would be set to 60 during the few COLD months we have here. Hopefully this will also help keep the main level a little warmer too. Tell me if this makes sense? Is this a good idea? Thanks!!!
