I live in a 2 story townhome that was built in the late 70's/early 80's. I have a large Carrier furnace in the attic and tile throughout the 1st floor. When I adjust the thermostat to 70+ to try and warm the first floor, the first floor remains cold while the upstairs is too hot. Is it recommended to close the vents upstairs? If I close them, what harm can I do to the furnace. Should I attempt to re-route or install new vents downstairs. Would cleaning the furnance help?
