I received a remote control as a gift and am trying to hook it up. I did get it hooked up and it did control my light and the fan. I would like to be able to use the remote and also be able to turn on the light when I enter the room with the wall switch.

I have a Red, White, and Black wire coming into the ceiling box. In verifying the power to the wires with the switch turned off and on the results are as follows: WALL SWITCH OFF = Red off,White off,Black on. WALL SWITCH ON = Red on, White off, Black on.

The remote has 1 White and 1 Black wire on side 1, and 1 Black wire, 1 White wire, and 1 Blue wire on side 2.

Can someone tell me what I should do? Thanks.....Leonard

Unfortunitly you cannot use the remote and the switches. To be able to use the light switch and the remote for the fan. Here we go!

1. You have to have two switches to be able to acomplish this. If not you will have to use the remote for both light and fan.

2. Pull the switches out and see what wire controls what? Generaly red turns on light. If this holds true then we go to the fan with modulator.

3. If the fan has a blue wire or a black wire with a white stripe that goes to your light. Make sure that one is connected to the wire that goes to the switch from above.

4. Take the black wire of the modulator( the side were there is only a black and white) Tie it to the black wire in the ceiling. Take the white and do the same.

5. On the other side of the modulator take the blue wire and cap it off. Next tie the black to black and white to white. The switch for the fan will have to remain on in most cases for the remote to work. The remote will only control the fan. The switch on the wall will control the light. Some of the newer remotes will allow you to be able to hook up the red wire to the blue and can use both the remote and the switch. Some will not let you turn the light on by the switch just by the remote. Try both ways see what happens.
