Any ideas for removing masking tape which was altered to a clinging stiff mess from Stain being applied to surrounding wood surface. The surface the tape is stuck to is vinyl window frame. We've tried Goo Gone, alcohol, soap and water. Scraping does get some off, but we're afraid of damaging the vinyl surface.

Hi Cheryl,

I find WD-40 usually removes that cursed masking tape residue - combined with lots and lots of patience!

May I respectfully suggest that next time you use the green painters tape. It's more expensive but peels off easily, even after a good length of time, and it avoids spending a lifetime trying to remove gunk left by the out-dated traditional brown masking tape.

Hi Cheryl,

I agree w/Alan. There is a big difference between masking tape and painter's tape. The latter doesn't leave any residue behind. Even stuff like Skin So Soft should work. Try WD-40 first if you'd like. If you can't find the Painter's Tape, ask for help in the store.

My best to ya and hope this helps.
