I am planning ceramic tile over wood subfloor. Has anyone had experience they can share using Hardibacker or Wedi (pronounced VeeDee) board? I am looking for something lighter and easier to work with than cement board. Thank you.

Hardibacker is great as as subfloor for ceramic tile. But it's a wet area like a bathroom or a laundry room I'd go with the cement board. Make sure to seal the seems if it is a wet area.

Denshield is a good product for this application. It's a fiberglass reinforced gypsum board that is approved for this. It's easy to work with and you can scribe and snap it like drywall.
