Hello, everywhere on this site I researched and I could not find any Q&A's about the importance of taping the seams( like drywall seams). The instructions for hardi-backer say to tape the seams, but the professional at the local orange colored home improvement store said this is only necessary if installing ceramic tile on walls and not floors. Is this correct? Do you have to tape the seams for floor installation or does it not really matter? Thanks for all info.

wonder board (with not as clean an edge as hardibacker)says no tape required,if you are using thin-set under and then screwing it down, seam tape seems a little silly, having said that.i'd do it anyway....good luck

The purpose of the tape and the mortar is to form a continuous membrane thereby preventing moisture from entering the substrate. Its easy...use fiberglass mesh drywall tape and embed it with the thinset you are going to set the tile in. No big deal.
