Can a person lay floor tile over existing linoleum without putting down backerboard? It is for an upstairs bathroom.

It has been done with some successes but I do not advocate it for a number of reasons. Others may say they do it all the time with no problem. If you are looking for cheap and easy it is the way to go. If you are looking for no problems down the road you may want to rip out the vinyl and whats under it first.
