I am looking to buy a cordless drill, and would like some help. Should I get a 12 volt, 14.4 volt, 18 volt ect.

I have been looking at the Craftsman, ect

and I am not sure which to buy with so many choices to choose from.

Thanks

Hi Pete,

Personally I like a 14.4v. I have an 18v but it's too heavy for everyday use (at least for me). I use the 18 for heavy duty stuff, but it's not great if you have much overhead work to do.

Mine are Makita (I've had for many years and really like). I've heard good things about Porter Cable and Dewalt. I recommend trying them out; remember that you'll have to "one hand" it above your head from time to time.

One thing I like about Makita is that the batteries haven't gone obsolete. I think it's kind of sleazy that with some brands, they do--kind of like with cell phones.

Believe it or not, I still use my ancient 9.6v from time to time, for screws and drilling. Even it is better than plugging in a corded drill.

Good luck! It's a great tool; very handy; my recommendation: get pro quality; don't skimp if you can afford the price difference; good luck!

Regards,
