My house has the stone coated Gerard Metal roof with tile profile. However, after 5+ years, I have noticed discoloration of roof on my garage, right under the water spout from the level above.

When contacted, Gerard indicates that my gutters were rusted by the oils from my earlier shake roof, and now the rust from the gutters from 2nd level is coming down the spout on settling on 1s level roof material.

Gerard neither its authorized/trained contractor has ever documented this or alerted the home-owner. Rather than honoring the warranty, Gerard is now indicatinting that this is due to improper installation and maintenance. I have sent Gerard picture of 7+ houses, with exactly same water spout arrangement and gutter, all of them either have a slate or tile roof with no discoloration problem.

Wondering if anybody can offer me suggestions.

I was doing some research on metal roofs to find out why my roof is turning BLACK. My roof was installed around 2005 or 2007, so it’s not that old. The roofing company and I had, are in a legal dispute. They put a lien on my house for $500 right after I paid for the roof. To make a long story short, I paid CASH for the roof...about $13,000. The day I may the 3rd and last payment, on my way home, I got a phone call from the secretary telling me I owed an extra $500 for NAILS. Nothing was brought up during the construction about any nails. She said the nails were needed to bring it to “code”. So I went down to the building dept. to find out, if in fact, this was done. They could not tell me. This was all happening at tax time, when property taxes were due, so I believe it was probably in Sept. or Nov. I refused to pay the $500 with out any proof of these so called extra nails being needed. They put a lien on my house for the $500 which I think by now, has elapsed legally.

ANYWAY, I am a photographer, so I just went outside and took a photo of the roof. I don’t know why it is turning black but even my neighbors are asking me what’s wrong with the roof as it was so nice when it was installed. I was going to have it professionally cleaned for $250 (NO POWER WASHING) but then someone suggested it may be defective metal. What do you think? The company.... Hippo Roofing, in Melbourne, Florida. I am attaching the photo I just took. I really need some help. The roof looks disgusting. My email is [email protected]
