Hi! Can anyone offer advice on how to remove
decorative pillars without damaging the hardwood floors
underneath? I'm sure they are not weight bearing, but
worried that they may cause too much damage if removed.

First off, I would recommend that you have an engineer or inspector take a look and determine if the pillars are load bearing or not. I would do this before doing anything else.
You don't say how big they are or any other detail so it is a little difficult to recommend how to approach this. I would cut the pillars about 3ft up and remove upper portion and then remove lower portion. This will you the ability to pry upward with pry bars.
Hope this was helpful
