Our house was built somewhere around 1900, that is the earliest recorded deed. problem is basement is terrble. The wasll are cracked, and some of the morter, if that what it is, is falling off. We are thinking about putting stucco up after the cracks are fixed, can this be done, and if so, what would be the best way of going about this.

Adress the cracks issue first with epoxy or urethane injections.

You did not mention if you get water in the basement.

If you get water, stucco will not last. If your basement is dry, it should be fine.

The walls need to be properly cleaned and prepared in order for stucco to adhere to the wall. Vaccuum the wall once cleaned to help open and pores in the stone.
