I just pulled up an old carpet that has been down since the 70's according to my dad. After sweeping up what was left of the carpet backing which is now a very fine black powder, I noticed a large area mat that covers about 2/3 of the room, the mat is about 10'x10' large. It is pretty brittle, I accidentally broke off a section of it. It's not glued down to the floor or anything, just a large mat in the center of the room. I'm wanting to remove this from the room but unsure whether it could be asbestos. Anyone have any ideas?
