What are the best techniques to lightning protection for the home theater enthusiast? I have a high dollar system and live in an n area with a lot of monthly lightning.

One of my friends had his home theater system and other electronic equipment wiped-out during a thunderstorm. Although his house didn't take a direct hit, a surge from a nearby lightning strike did the damage. Everything that was plugged into the wall (even with surge protectors) was destroyed. Everything that was disconnected from the wall was fine.

He assembled a team of engineers and we worked part time on a solution. We designed a device called "Lightning Dome" that monitors for storms, automatically disconnects equipment when a storm is approaching, and reconnects it when the storm has passed.

We are currently trying to get the unit into production using Kickstarter to fund it.
