My 1927 bungalow has the original wood double-hung windows, but unattractive aluminum trickle-track storms/screens attached to the exterior frame. I am thinking of slowly replacing these aluminum storms with interior or exterior wood storms, such as those from Allied Window Inc. Can someone give me some idea of the cost of one window, say with white finish and a screen, either interior or exterior? It's a lot of work to measure the windows in order just to get a quote, and if they real expensive I'll postpone this task this year. I just want a general idea of what people have paid.

A plain wood storm would run about $75, a plain wood screen about $65, or a wood storm/screen combination window about $95. However, every size is a different price, and those prices I mentioned are for an unfinished product; it still needs to be painted, and installation is not included.

I'd hate to see an interior storm; that's not normally done and can lead to condensation-trapping problems.

Marvin windows mankes all three types I mentioned, and even though I don't like storms or storm/screen combinations at all, theirs is the best wood st/scr combination I've ever seen.

Thanks very much for the reply. I got the impression from a neighbor that the storms would cost much more than this. This neighbor ordered them for his Sears house from a specialty provider, then painted and installed them himself. They are a combo of glass/screen for the exterior and blend well with the original windows. He would not say exactly how much they cost but implied they were expensive - I know that part of the cost was the shipping.

I agree about the interior storms, although I know that some public historical properties use them so that the exterior is true to its original appearance.

I will check out Marvin. Thanks again.
