I am wanting to build a pergola in my backyard. I have attached a pdf showing the sketchup of what I am looking at.

Design Details:

-6x6 posts will be placed on concrete footing using simpson strongties.

-footings will be 4' deep and entirely in 3/4" clean backfill that was used for fill behind a retaining wall. (They will be about 6' away from the retaining wall)

-posts will be notched at the top to accept the beams.
-beams will be through bolted to posts and each other.

-all rafters and purlins will be notched at joints to increase stability

My questions are:

Will the design work in relation to stability & beam strength? (Will the beams likely sag or are the 2x10s sufficient?)

Could I safely remove the four inner posts so that I only have the four outer posts? (I am worried about distance between posts for the 2x10s.

Would it be a problem if I increased the width of the pergola to 144"? (Thus increasing the length of the 2x8 rafters)

I appreciate any help provided.

Thanks
