We had to replace a dual toggle switch in our bathroom that operates a bathroom shower fan and lights above the vanity. Although the fan and light operated independently with the old switch they would only work simultaneously with the new switch and only with one of the toggles. I tried to change the wires and now the fan (bottom toggle) will only work when the light (top toggle) is also on. I don't believe I have them wired correctly. Can anyone advise me what I may have done wrong? If I have the live wire attached to the wrong (not common) side of the dual switch would it still work?

If there is only one hot wire it must be attached to the side that has the two screws tabbed together. The other two wires go to the other two screws.

Thanks Larry. I did indeed have a wire on the wrong side.
