I am getting ready to sell my house. It is a small starter house. My problem is that there is an old french drain that was installed by former owners. The yard is higher than the sidewalk around the house, and water comes in the garage when it rains. Also, the kitchen floor has linoleum, which is soft in some areas. It doesn't look bad, but it is of a concern. I am currently trying to "shave" down the dirt on the sides of the house, so rain will stop entering the garage and softening the floor in the kitchen. We also have had a problem with water in the vents. (they are in the floors) I don't really want to go the expense or effort of a new french drain. Any other suggestions besides changing the level of the ground around the house? Also, should I try to plant grass, ground cover, or do pavers in the areas on the side of the house? HELP!
