I bought a house built in 1910. When pulling up carpet, we found
9 x 9 inch tiles glued to the hardwood floors! When we pulled a few up, there was black glue on the wood that was swirled onto the wood. In the bath, when we pulled up tiles, there is black fiber backing that is stuck to the floor.

An electrician who was here giving a re-wire estimate stated that they are NOT asbestos because they are not honeycombed on the back of the tile (which he could see from looking at the edges).

Is he correct? We can't put vinyl over the top because all the tile squares have curled up on the edges and loose. I am afraid to lay vinyl on top because I am afraid it will disturb the look of the vinyl in the future.

Any ideas??
