We plan to install new carpet in our 1951 home.
After removing the old carpet and pad, we can see the floor originally had tile. The mastic had been removed down to the fibers of the plywood floor. All that's left is evidence of a large 24" tile pattern and use of a black adhesive and a yellow adhesive. If we wipe the wood with a wet rag, we can get very small black flecks that can be tracked. If we leave it dry, we don't track it. How do we carefully and cleanly install pad and carpet over this. Covering the plywood is not an option. Mahogany paneling and base is throughout the room.
