Hello. I have a home with vinyl siding. The windows portrude 1 and 1/8" from the lap/sheathing as measured with a ruler pressed firmly against the siding at the lap. I would like to plan a way to board my windows with plywood for hurricane season. Should I affix a "frame" around the window, directly over the vinyl, composed of PT 2x4s ,and then affix the plywood to that? Otherwise, without this2x4 frame there'd be a 1 1/8" gap between the plywood and the siding. How can I best make this a semi-permanent solution to noarding up for hurricanes, while minimally disrupting the siding's water protection? I.e., putting screw holes into the siding.
