I am removing wallpaper from the 1980's. In the area around the tub and between the top of the tile and ceiling (appx 20"). Under the paper I found wire mesh embedded in a that the tile i assume is attached to and goes to the top of the wall. My question what do i cover the wire with so we can paint over and look good and smooth. The wallpaper glue stuck to the wire mesh pretty good so it pitted what was smooth. Do I use sheet rock mud or spackling compound? My experience with sheetrock mud is loaded with mistakes so if you don't want it smooth, call me
