Can I paint the aluminum siding on my house? If so, what kind of paint should I use?

I have seen aluminum siding painted. Don't know what kind of paint. Try a local, name brand paint store (like Sherwin Williams).

Yes you can paint aluminum siding and it holds paint very well.

The first thing you need to do is wash it to remove the chalk that is there and you can do this with a combunation of power washing and hand washing with a brush. If there is a Duron paint store in your area they will have a cleaner called house and deck wash by MITM and that will do a good job of cleaning your the siding. After washing and hopefully all or most of the chalk came off you will need to prime with Duron Siding in a Can acrylic primer and then finish with Duron Siding in a Can satin or semi-gloss acrylic coating. If all of the existing coating comes off down to the bare metal you will need to prime with Duron Dura-Clad White Alkyd metal primer and finish with the same products above.

Could the painting be done with a sprayer? This would seem like a big job with a hand paint brush.

The paint can be brushed or sprayed onto the siding. If you spray it you need to use an airless sprayer not one of thoes hand sprayers such as a wagner power painter as you will not end up with a very smooth finish. You may be able to rent an airless sprayer or you can buy them for around $350 to $400 from Home Depot. If you decide to spray it yourself just be aware that it takes some practise and you will have to do a fair amount of covering up to keep the paint off of your windows, roof, foundation, etc. Also it will need to be a calm day as you don't want to paint your neighbors cars and or house along with yours.
