I bought a house about 6 years ago and it had an Apollo Hydroheat system in the house. We've had relatively few issues with it, other than the water heater going out, but now we are starting to have leaks and issues with hot water throughout the house. We have an undersized AC unit that we are looking at replacing and thought we might as well replace the furnace before the leaks get worse and cause more issues. I'm trying to decide and between a gas furnace with an 80% rating or a 95% rating, main factor being how long it will take to recoup the extra money spent. I live in Portland, OR and we have a pretty mild climate so I'm not sure it is worth the extra money.

My question is: will the 80% gas furnace raise my gas utility bill or will it stay roughly the same? The Apollo unit appears to have an 80% rating as well, but they say that they are more energy efficient due to using the existing heat form the hot water heater. As a reference, for the last 12 months my gas bill was only about $660 total for the heating, hot water, and dryer.
