I have a 2100 sq ft 1970s ranch. The floor is a series of 2x6 beams running the length of the house, spaced 4’ on-center, with no joists and 1 1/8” t&g plywood. Piers under the beams are every 8’. The crawlspace is on 16” high, but it’s all in good shape under there - moisture barrier, floor insulation, and no signs of moisture or mold or issues like that. But, the floor is bouncy in some places and the laminate flooring is not flush in some spots (it feels spongy).. I can’t find any reference to this type of construction anywhere. Any suggestions on how to firm up the floor? Would hanging joists between the beams every ~2’ or so be effective?
