I desperately need some help. My Kenmore washing machine control panel was dented and I have the replacement part. I just have no idea how to go about replacing it. It is a simple sheet of metal with the four holes for the knobs in it. Seems like it should be an easy task, but maybe I'm wrong? Could someone give me some step by step instructions including how to remove the timer dial/knob? Thanks so much!

I think this is what you are trying to do:
Every Kenmore top-loading washer has a control panel on top of the machine. To access the control panel do the following, (after unplugging the power cord and removing the control knobs):
1) find the end covers (usually plastic)on each side of the control panel.
2) with a small screwdriver, gently pry the bottom of the covers forward and up. They will pop loose for removal.
3) under that cover you will notice a small screw that holds the panel to the top of the washer. Remove the screws on both sides.
4) now the panel can be rotated forward and up, swinging on its own hinges (you may have to move the washer away from the wall)
5) you should now see the screws that hold the panel in place.
6) simply remove the appropriate screws and replace your panel.
I hope this helps you. Merry Christmas!

I have an old Kenmore Washer - was broken when I got it from a friend and been using it for 5 yrs now ;) - recently I've been having to touch the dial 'just right' while it finishes the spin cycle or it'll quit?? Any way I'm trying to take the dial off, got the knob off but the dial will not come freely. Do I just pry it off with a screwdriver? - feels like it'll break? Any help would be greatly appreciated and Merry Christmas!

That is difficult to say without knowing the exact model number of the washer in question to find out how it was designed. If you post its model number, someone may be able to tell you for sure. Many timer indicator dials do just press on.
You can find tips for locating the model and serial number identification tag on your appliances in the 'Repair Parts' section of my web site linked below.

Yes, that timer dial/pointer looks to just push onto the timer's shaft. Maybe it is just a bit stuck?
BTW. That part doesn't look to be available any longer so you're right to be careful with it.
JFYI

Dan0 I've been trying to pull that piece off by placing a screwdriver between it and the faceplate but it feels like its going to break if I apply anymore force; don't want that... do you have any tips?
I got the ring off... in one piece! I used two flat heads on opposite sides of the ring and the ring slid off. Not sure what I was thinking before? Thanks for your help again!!
Glad to hear it, thanks for the follow up!

The washer does fills but does not wash when it goes to the wash cycle it stays there for 2 minutes then goes to spin (skips the wash) the clothes are in the washer wet never washed. The cycle last about ten minutes. Do I need a new control panel or is it a fuse that has gone bad?
