recently in preparing for new floor covering in the kitchen,we discovered that under the vinyl linoleum and luan is a thick layer of black mold.the mold had penetrated thru the vinyl and luan.we also noticed there is now a sagging low area in the floor. obviously at some point an appliance has had a leak, but that is no longer a problem. how do we clean the old 70's original linoleum and subfloor(do we need to remove this?) and how do level the subfloor so that new floor covering can be installed correctly? there is a small crawl space under the kitchen.

Cut through all of the layers down to on center of the joists around the area. Check your floor joists if they are gone call a carpenter, if not...

Replace the sub floor with one that matches the existing probably either 3/4 or 5/8 ply. Glue & fasten that down, glue being the most important here.

Cut through the vinyl & luan into managable sizes around 3' sq. It will be easier to remove. Replace with new luan , use floor leveler for the voids & dips, then place your new vinyl.
