I have a compression fitting connecting the hot water heater to the water supply line. I have replaced this fitting at least three times and when 6 months to 1 year goes by it fails. This fitting is made by Quest and is 7/8 OD. Any helpful ideas to correct this ongoing problem? Any advice is appreciated.

Search the net for info on Quest. Then get a licensed plumber out to replace it with copper. Otherwise, you will continue to have the problem.

Probably the most permanent solution is as bobp says - soldered copper.
But I'd like to comment that I've used compression fittings on several water heaters over several years (that I still own) and none has failed. Maybe if you just get a different brand....

try useing a tube 7/8 compression adapter to a flex hot water heater line and this should outlast your quest problems by far.
