just had a new complete A/C unit (inside and out) installed. Was told by a technician that one of our air handling ducts was short by about 8 inches so they weren't able to reach the vent to make the connection w/o splicing a piece onto exsisting ductwork. We were also told that our exsisting ductwork was in need of replacement because of the age of the house.

my question is 2 fold. #1. If the contract states "Modifications to supply plenum",as part of the install, should that splice have been done at the time of the install? (they claimed that they did not have the right size duct to make the splice.) #2. If they say my ductwork needs replacing, is that something that could be done by your average "home handyman" such as myself? We just recieved our check from our finance company and have not paid for the services as of yet.
