And locate it in the overflow drip pan?

My AC contractor and Building contractor have constructed a box of 2X4 studs and OSB open on top and front only and placed it in the overflow pan. On top is the condenser/heat coil/blower assembly and coming in from the front is the return air.

It looks like a bad idea to me, but they assure me that it will not be a problem. I see moisture and wood leading to mold with subsequent dissemination through the house by the blower.

If you are worried about it. Seal the inside of the wood with something like Kills. Then Paint it to protect the wood from moisture.
