We are painting a room and I would like to keep everything the same color. Is it safe to paint outlets? This is a bedroom.

You can, but it will look like crap. The outlets and coverplates will end up with a flat finish very easily damaged (chipping and dirt). You should of course trip the breaker before starting on the room as most paint is conductive. Shut off power and safety and function will not be an issue. It will still look like crap.

I agree with you tomh, everytime I see a painted outlet, I always replace them.

Let us know how it works out.

Safe? I suppose. Practical? No.

Paint will chip when you plug in something. Also, be aware that if you get paint in the slots the plug may not fit in and that will be a problem.

Check the different DIY stores. Some are starting to stock the designer colors.

I didn't think about the chipping, but since that point was brought up, I do recall seeing outlets painted and they were crappy. Thanks. We will look for designer outlets. I'll let you know what we find. Thanks for your all your input. Jeff

Ivory, white, and brown are common.

But I am seeing almond also. And almond looks like ivory until you make the mistake of installing the wrong one next to the other one. DAMHIKT.

Red and Black are also available.
